The Power of October Reset

Let's explore October Theory

Dear Friends,

There is that seasonal, autumn chill in the air and in addition to all things pumpkin spice, I have been feeling like resetting/shifting/upleveling in some areas of my life more than any other October and I just realized I am part of the latest social media trend (I adore TikTok!) called the “October Theory”.

The October Theory suggests that the beginning of fall is an ideal time to reassess our goals and values, offering a fresh start before the year’s end. This trend proposes that October provides a perfect 90-day window to make meaningful changes and enter the new year with momentum.

💡 Yes, this creator is very young and this is a newsletter about transitioning into retirement, but if you’ve been following me for a while, you know I recommend inter-generational relationships and the power of learning from each other. Consuming content from younger folks also keeps us relevant as we age! And she gives a very good explanation of October Theory. 👀

@chloevanberkel

tik tok comes up with a lot of theories but i’m kinda here for this one #october #octobertheory #firstofthemonth #endoftheyear #fallseason

Why October Works:

  1. Seasonal Shift: The changing leaves and cooler temperatures naturally inspire reflection and renewal.

  2. Holiday Anticipation: The approaching holiday season motivates us to improve various aspects of our lives.

  3. Year-End Perspective: With three months left in the year, we gain a clearer view of our accomplishments and areas for growth.

Tips for Your October Reset

  1. Reflect and Reassess: Take time to evaluate your current situation and identify areas where you'd like to see change.

  2. Set Realistic 90-Day Goals: Focus on achievable objectives that can be accomplished by year's end.

  3. Create a Vision Board: Visualize your ideal self and work backward to determine necessary steps.

  4. Embrace New Habits: Start small, consistent changes that align with your goals.

  5. Connect with Others: Share your intentions with friends or join a group for accountability and support.

  6. Practice Gratitude: Acknowledge your progress and celebrate small wins along the way.

  7. Prepare for the Holidays: Use this time to plan for a meaningful and stress-free holiday season.

🎃 For me, this is how October Theory is showing up:

  • I started taking AG1 first thing every morning followed by 30 minutes on my walking pad (this is an example of James Clear’s habit stacking)

  • I am doing a deep closet reorganizing/cleaning/curating project

  • I am exploring a new romantic situation

  • I am considering a potential reframing of my coaching business

What changes will you make this October? Share your thoughts and experiences with me. I'd love to hear how you're applying the October Theory to your journey!

💡 As always, I like to give you additional curated articles to explore this topic further (unfortunately these publications do not offer gift articles).
